FAMU Dorothy Henderson Foster Care Scholars Program

Campus-based support program for homeless, adopted and former foster care students attending Florida A&M University. Assists students with housing, education and academics, finances and employment, and supportive relationships through community connections. Provides on-campus housing assistance, DCF/Homeless Waiver, academic advisement, orientation fee deferments, housing deposit deferments, book scholarships (limited), financial aid assistance, food and clothing, counseling, resources and referrals
*Must be enrolled as a FAMU student, who has received foster care, is homeless or adopted (certified by Florida Department of Children and Families).

Helping tenants with an eviction notice as well as the homeless, this non-profit focuses on housing solutions. While much of the financial support is offered through referrals, they also operate rent programs for veterans, offer stabilization, and refer clients to low-interest loans. Other support from the coalition in Tallahassee can include Rapid Re-housing and information on government grants, such as ESG.

Leon County Mortgage and foreclosure Assistance

Leon County administers several programs that will provide both foreclosure counseling and cash grants that can be used to help pay a mortgage. Florida has been hit hard by the housing crisis, and this local assistance program will do what it can to help keep people in their homes

Tallahassee Housing Authority

THA provides affordable housing for persons with low to moderate incomes through two programs: Housing Choice Voucher (HCV)/Section 8 and Public Housing. The Tallahassee Housing Authority also provides supportive services for our residents (clients) and coordinates additional services through the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program. Funding for all programs is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
