Active Minds is opening up the conversation about mental health and creating lasting change in the way mental health is talked about, cared for, and valued.

Ayana Therapy

Mental healthcare for marginalized and intersectional communities. We strive to address the strong lack of engagement between marginalized communities and the mental health care industry which arises as a result of cost, stigma, and lack of culltural competency. We achieve this by matching members with providers that share their unique traits, values, and sensibilities.

Just as you would call 9-1-1 for emergencies, you can call 2-1-1 for human service information and assistance. Staff are available 24 hours a day to listen and provide emotional support, crisis counseling, suicide prevention, and information & referrals. You do not have to be in crisis to call, there is no eligibility criteria, and our services are free. They help you navigate through the maze of community services in a nonjudgmental manner.

In an emergency, low to moderate income Tallahassee and Leon County families can get the financial help they need from charities, churches, or the government. You can learn how to apply for a loans or grants to pay rental arrears or a security deposit or get free food, clothing, transportation assistance, and even government aid for paying utility or electric bills

Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida Emergency Services

Assist in emergencies such as financial assistance, food, prescription, housing and utilities. One will be provided with a case manager that can assist with referrals and other needs. Screenings are accepted on a weekly basis.

Direct Emergency Assistance Program

Both Leon County and other government agencies sponsor the Direct Emergency Assistance Program providing applicants with emergency rent and utility bill payment assistance, security deposit assistance, free prescription medications, transportation, health care, and food assistance to households whose members are working and are currently employed, but who are experiencing a financial emergency. The program focuses on those who are experiencing a short-term crisis.

ECHO, Emergency Services Program

Provides several resources on a limited basis. They include a mid-day meal, financial assessments and budgeting counseling, debt reduction, and also furniture. Other resources from the ECHO-affiliated churches may include free food, clothing, diapers, as well as small household items.

FAMU Case Management Services

Cunningham Career Center, Suite 105-A, Room 100

Case Management works as a liaison to connect students with the appropriate resources on and off campus. Resources that the case manager assist with are food insecurity, administrative procedures, family relationships and social adjustment. If any campus or community member is concerned about a student's well-being, please don't hesitate to contact the case manager

FAMU Center for Disability Access and Resources (CeDar)

The Center for Disability Access and Resources provide services and academic accommodations for students of all backgrounds on campus with documented physical, psychological and learning disabilities. Not only do we advocate for our participants, but we encourage them to become their own advocates as well. CeDAR collaborates with faculty, staff, and community partners to provide accommodations for the unique needs of students both in and out of the classroom.

FAMU Military and Veteran Affairs

The Post-9/11 GI Bill ® may cover 100 percent of tuition for up to 36 months, as well as provide a housing stipend. This benefit may be transferred to eligible spouses or dependents if the service member is still on active duty.

FAMU Student Health Services

SHS provides outpatient primary care and health promotion students at FAMU. Onsite Pharmacy that provides easy access and discounted prices for prescription and over-the-counter medications. FAMU SHS staffed by Florida licensed physicians, advanced nurse practitoners, LPNs, certfied medical assistants, and support staff who provide high quality, convenient, and affordable services.

FAMU Trio Programs

TRIO is a set of programs that have been instituted among campuses across America (in over 1,000 institutions) to aid first-generation, disabled, or lower-income students with and throughout their collegiate careers. Through their provision of resources (labs, tutors, courses, counseling, etc.), TRIO programs seek to ease a student’s transition into collegiate life, and aid in increasing retention among the students served by the program.
